In relation to IT projects, agile stands for a new way of managing projects.
There are many different agile methodologies like Scrum, Crystal or DSDM but the main principles are all very similar. They either use an iterative or incremental approach instead of the linear approach used in the traditional waterfall method. In an agile methodology, team members try to see the project and its goal through the eyes of the customer and always do what is right for the customer . Change is not seen as a threat but rather a welcome opportunity to develop an even better product.
Agility is the ability to both create and respond to change in order to profit in a turbulent business environment.
Agility is the ability to balance flexibility and stability.
To be able to keep pace with the fast evolving IT, agility is needed. People working in the project team need to be agile, but the methodology they work with must be agile too. This means that the people involved need to be highly motivated and well skilled. The methodology must be flexible and not overloaded with rules and regulations so that it can adapt to change easily.
